Dachshund Therapy
Therapy Reading Program with the Dachshunds
The Dachshund Therapy Reading Program offers a unique and joyful way to help children build confidence and develop a love of reading. Each week, students have the opportunity to read to and interact with a gentle dachshund and its owner, under the guidance of Jean Ballands, a qualified teacher with 28 years of experience.

This special program is designed for students who may experience reading challenges, need extra motivation, or simply benefit from a calm and rewarding reading environment. With the comforting presence of a friendly dachshund, reading becomes a positive and engaging experience.
Each weekly session runs for approximately 50 minutes and includes a combination of reading, simple art-making activities, and basic dog training. All activities are tailored to suit each student’s age, ability, and interests.
For safety and comfort:
- Dogs remain on lead at all times.
- The owner is always present with their dog and the student.
- A class of up to 8 students with 8 dachshunds is ideal.
- All participating adults hold current Working with Children Checks.
- A parent permission slip is recommended and can be provided.
A full Risk Assessment document for school incursions is also available HERE.
All tutoring sessions are fully covered by public liability insurance for your peace of mind.
